As the only non-private golf course in Greenwich, the Town of Greenwich-owned championship golf course was nick-named "the Griff".

The Griff is an award-winning 18-hole Robert Trent Jones designed course built in 1964 and is recognized as one of the premier golf courses in the area. The Griff hosted the 2018 Metropolitan Golf Association Public Links Championship and an official PGA professional event. Greenwich Magazine referred to the Griff as Greenwich's "hidden gem".
